I don't think I like that last part (being a better woman should be primarily for yourself, right?), but I see this as similar to "everything happens for a reason" and "good things come from tough experiences".

Couldn't the exact same thing be said of a woman's purpose in a man's life, or in the case of same-gender couples, one person's purpose in another person's life? (I think I just killed Veena's bit here.) ~
Yes, indeed, you are correct. I was addressing what I felt was an imbalance in the statement... so I evened it up... but yes, of course the same can be said of women. I think ultimately I would kinda reject the whole idea of someone being a purpose in one's life... I do think we grow and learn as we go along and we hopefully improve and don't make the same mistakes again... but I am not sure the idea of one person leaving one's life and leaving behind a supposedly better man or woman sits comfortably with me.
