It wouldn't be punishment for people in Washington State and Nevada.

If this is true, it sounds incredibly illegal to me.

(I'm no tax expert -- I'm just saying that if this is some declaration that only applies to only certain states --  sounds illegal to me .)

No specific states are singled out. The tax plan calls for eliminating all state and local tax deductions.
Liberal states do tend to have the highest state tax.

Thanks for helping me out a bit on this. It was the singling out of certain states that struck me strangely.

Just so happens it effects states won by Hillary the most. How much state and local tax does Kentucky pay versus CA or NY? More money to the Feds, which is Trump, from states who didn't want him in office. Poetry
Do you really think the implications are missed?
CA and NY already pay more federal tax than some of the other states combined and now the Feds, which is Trump, plan not to let them get any of it back. This post was edited by O-uknow at November 13, 2017 7:52 AM MST

CA and NY are also very populous. So naturally they pay more income tax.
Why should they Federal government subsidize states who tax and spend rather than reward those who manage their money without burdening their taxpayers?

Good question although I don't know about "naturally". Methink the more people who put in the less each should pay. Works that way almost everywhere else. I just don't like to see taxpayers getting "F"d twice. We truly have no friends in government :( This post was edited by O-uknow at November 12, 2017 7:57 PM MST

CA has over 10% of the population so they should pay at least 10% of the Fed income taxes.

By that logic CA should receive at least 10% of government spending on all states. Does it receive that much?

Are the Feds able to manage money without the elimination of the tax deduction?

Okay, NY and Ca are more populous so naturally they pay more in the way of taxes to the Feds. Now the Feds stand to get even more by way of not giving back what they took too much of in the first place. What does CA and NY get in return? Not a whole lot. This is more money to feed the Beast. "Red states vs. blue states

Interestingly enough, red states, which tend to advocate  for a lesser influence by the federal government, are much more  dependent on the federal government than blue states. Blue states  combined to form an average ranking of 18.3 (with 1 being most  dependent and 50 being least dependent), while red states  combined to rank 33.2 overall."

Per capita neither CA or NY pay much more than most other states. CA normally pays about average with NY pay an average of a couple thousand more.

  • I'm not  a fan of that part of the tax plan but when Schumer and Cuomo say it punishes some NYS citizens by not allowing them to write off their taxes and does so disproportionately because NYS citizens have a high tax burden. Well that means the problem is that Albany and NYS state taxes are WAY TOO HIGH for citizens and business.  f the only way NYS can attract business and citizens is by the federal government allowing them to write off local taxes, then that's a problem and a form of welfare for the state government.
Schumer, Louise, Cuomo, etc......  New York State taxes are ridiculous and the state wastes too much of our money.

That's far from a fait accompli. A number of reps on both sides of the aisle have said that they won't support a bill that includes what essentially is double taxation.
