Both. It depends on how lazy I am.

By the bag.  If I bought all the heads of lettuce that I like in a salad, they would go bad before I could use them up.

I usually do the same thing, but the bags don't always last that long either.

I don't buy them unless they are good for a week, so there's no waste.

We only buy all our salads whole ,never bags of just leaves or any partly prepared .....
Once sealed in plastic bags the risk of catching E.coli increases dramatically......
In England ,by law all pre packed salads and veg's have to be washed in diluted bleach which destroys most of the  nutrients within in the leaves.....

If you want to eat fresh salad and leaves .....buy it loose and Wash it all by hand first ..... This post was edited by Nice Jugs at November 20, 2017 2:31 PM MST

The head lettuce around here all comes in plastic-wrap bag things.

    By the leaf.
I'm anorexic and don't like to waste food.

    Heads. Prepackaged lettuce is overpriced.
