At my age, "smart" no longer means anything. I feel lucky to remember why I came into a room.

Once when in college I spent three hours trying to work out a calculus equation. I finally had to ask my son for help. I had made a minor algebra error in a previous step. I should have caught it. Finally got that pic, eh? Very cool. This post was edited by Element 99 at November 26, 2017 8:14 PM MST

Goodness yes.  There are so many things that even if I work on them a little at a time I can never come close to figuring out.

  • Yes, there are times when I've read a scholarly paper and been disappointed at how little I understood of what I was reading.

    Yes.
When in doubt, state the obvious.  That is an easy way to keep it clean and on the mark.  After that you research and learn... Quickly!

That is how my mind deals with the whole scenario. ;) This post was edited by Merlin at November 26, 2017 8:15 PM MST

My wife and sister-in-law used to play it a lot and would screech it out loudly. If they were indoors I would leave the room. Outside...the whole neighborhood could hear them.

I've never played the game ?!?  I just know it is one of those things you say when you win something big or figure something out :)  I think I'll look it up right now.  :) :) This post was edited by Merlin at November 29, 2017 1:45 PM MST

I saw my high school transcripts which had my IQ score on it.  According to that test, I am not the genius I thought I was.  Then I found out that test measured quickness of thinking.  Now they have IQ tests which are not timed.  Is there still hope for me?  More recently I learned that Einstein's IQ was supposedly lower than The Unibomber's, a serial killer.  Einstein himself said he was no more intelligent that anyone else, he was just more persistent in trying to solve problems.  Even scholastic achievement is said to depend more on diligence than intelligence.  So what does it all mean?  Should I really feel bad about that my own IQ test score?

The answer to your question lies in your response to this:  If lost in a jungle (or any other challenging situation) would you rather have the aid of a native of low IQ or a genius from Cambridge/Harvard/etc.?  "Intelligence" is not the end all be all...it is often quite stupid

Nobody knows what an IQ test measures, not even the people who sell the tests. The test was developed to predict whether French boys, not girls, could perform well at a specific French academy. They say there is no way to prepare or to improve your score, but they have always known that the youngest boy in the class gets the highest score, and a boys performance in school can be greatly improved by telling the teacher that he got a higher score than he actually did.

The IQ tradition is bullsnot from start to finish.
