Why is it ok these days to threaten the President of the United States?

Threatening the President of the United States is a felony under United States Code Title 18, Section 871.[1][2][3][4] It consists of knowingly and willfully mailing or otherwise making "any threat to take the life of, to kidnap, or to inflict bodily harm upon the President of the United States". This also includes presidential candidates and former Presidents. The United States Secret Service investigates suspected violations of this law and monitors those who have a history of threatening the President. Threatening the President is considered a political offense.[5] Immigrants who commit this crime can be deported.

    Apparently it is acceptable because it is Trump.  Calls for his assassination began appearing on Twitter almost as soon as the election was called...and thousands were posted.  The "Love Trumps Hate" slogan sure got abandoned in a hurry, eh?     Its ridiculous. If there were threats of any kind toward Obama, there would have been severe re-precautions. Its ironic too, he is the only president in past history who has kept his campaign promises and IS starting to make a big step in Making America Great Again. Doesnt anyone else want that? It just seems so absurd. THanks Bozette. And thanks for the friends request. Ill be proud to be your friend.

    What is currently "acceptable" is unprecedented in our history.  To be fair, that includes Trump's behavior, but the calls for assassination went beyond the pale, IMHO.

    It is more hypocrisy from the left. I do think that some of these people may get a call or visit from the FBI and it does not make it into the news.

    There has always been one rule for the establishment and one rule for everything else.

    They're testing to see how much they can get away with. The left relies almost exclusively on smear attacks because they have no rational argument. The death threats are a way to measure how effectively their enemy has been demonized. They dare not kill or impeach Trump until they think hardly anyone cares. They're trying to calculate what the right would do.
