No offense meant, anyvay you started it sayying it was mindnumbingly boring :-))

By the way, have you seen "Solaris"? it is based on a novel by Stanislaw Lem a fave author of mine, yet the movie is utter crap, endless panning over a solar surface where nothing happens. I left after half an hour.

I did not make reference to the entire movie.  There are parts of it that drag.
No, I have not seen "Solaris", but I do remember that it bombed at the box office.

Though no fault of the movie, after a very active day for me, friends and I went to a midnight showing of the film.
    Already exhausted, I fell asleep.

I enjoyed 2001 until the last 10 minutes or so. None of Kubrick's endings made any sort of sense.

The book was based on Saturn, not Jupiter - but they couldn't film it that way, special effects were not that advanced in 1968 so it was decided that getting the rings right would be impossible. (Incidentally this shoots down the conspiracy theories about the moon landings being faked - it was actually easier to put men on the moon for real than to fake it).
