What is the first ever book you remember reading

The first I remember was 'The Radiant Way' a kids reading primer.

Other than schoolbooks, the first book I remember reading on my own was Betsy-Tacy by Maud Hart Lovelace. I have read the entire series and even done the tour of the town in which they were set.

It was a Winnie the Pooh book. I don't recall the title, only that Pooh Bear got stuck in the entryway to Rabbit's home, and, they spent the entire story trying to get him unstuck.

Unfortunate that you do not recall the actual title - that would have been a real bonus. But well done for remembering the plot. I think Winnie the Pooh, Wind in the Willows and Beatrix Potter's books must figure high in youngsters book-lists - not today perhaps, but once upon a time.

  • This is not a good start!  We've only just met and already you're calling me a teller-of-tall-tales. My heart is saddened. :(

I really cannot recall.  Being read to or reading on my own has been nearly a daily occurrence since...well, since before I was born, really.

I think I came out of the womb reading.  I don't remember learning.  It feels like I always read.  I still do.

My parents were not bookish at all.

I love words and writing and books and reading.

'In the land of little mice or something similar' It belonged to my cousin.. I coveted it, and begged her to let me borrow it, she took forever and ever... in the end it was very, very boring - but it was a BOOK. And we had very few books back then, indeed they were something to be in awe of.

I have no idea, but I do recall that our reading primer in school was the Dick and Jane series.

At age five I was doing the experiments in my brother's chemistry set. (They made chemistry sets for kids in those days.) The only problem was I couldn't figure out how to pronounce phenolphthalein.

BTW chemistry sets for kids are pretty lame. I got bored because I wasn't learning anything.

The Enchanted Wood by Enid Blyton. My mother was a teacher before she had me, I could read before I started school.

Where The Wild Things Are immediately comes to mind, but maybe that's just the first one I remember enjoying.

It was a book of nursery rhymes and I was four years old when I started reading.
