    I do the side glance thing.  I never want anyone to know what I am lurking at.

    I discovered a possum is climbing up the bird feeder at night and hogging all the peanuts I put out for the cardinals. So I lurk nearby with a snow shovel. Possums do not like snow shovels.

    Don't hurt him.  He is just being a little possum.  Feed him something else on the ground and he will leave the other guys alone.  Don't be mean.

    Don't worry, the little critter can run fast. If it was not so cold, I could bring out the spraying garden hose, All little woodland creatures run off in terror of the garden hose.
