To the end of the block, where there was a t-bone intersection, while walking the dog. Then I would decide whether to turn left or right.

"In 1982, I bought a new Yamaha XJ650. It was a Friday and I was told to bring it back in for a 600 mi. check & service. So I told the dealer, "See you tomorrow!"
Was the Yamaha a turbo model? Very rare, but I had a chance to buy one and just didn't have the money.

Yes it was. Yamaha sold them in 1981 & 1982. The manufacturer made available a factory kit (GYT kit) that opened-up the turbo so that the bike would run about the same as a 1000 cc on the boost. 128 mph (top speed) and I ran mine on AmsOil ... so I got about 65 mpg on the highway (55 mpg on regular oil). I entered it in the Craig Vetter High Mileage Race at Laguna Seca to establish those numbers.
Anyway ... fun to ride, although I always felt like to front end was too small for the bike. The seat was about a 200 mile seat (but there weren't many that were better than that ... :)) ). In my answer, I wrote that it was a 1982 ... but that's wrong, it was an 1981. I don't think there were many differences though.
In 1972 I left Phoenix on my Triumph 650 motorcycle. I drove north for a while, into the forest called "cool pines of Payson". There isn't anything to do in a forest, and I didn't feel like going home, so I just kept driving. Someplace north of Showlow I decided what the heck, I may as well drive on up to Denver and see my brother. So I spent the weekend there and then drove back to Phoenix. That was when I was married and almost anything was better than staying home.
Oh, but you said "farthest". That would be from Atlanta, GA to Long Beach, CA. I never felt accepted in Georgia, so I eventually bought a van, painted it, sold my house, quit my job, and headed west just to see what would happen. I drove twenty thousand miles in two months.
I hitchhiked through Illinois (Chicago area) all the way to Denver, Colorado in a blizzard. It was THE adventure of my existence. Sai Baba let me know who He was during this trip.
I stuck out my thumb and wound up in Denver in 24 hours. That is 1,500 miles, I believe. In a blizzard and I had no money except for 80 bucks in quarters I erned as a Denny's waitress.
