    Oxalis and clover are not in the same genus and are only distantly related through the rosids clade. Another name for clover is trefoil, which means three-leaved, although they can have (rarely) up to 6 leaves.

    WHen I was young there was a plot of ground at the end of our street with lots of four leaved clovers.

    Are you sure they weren't sorrel? They look similar to clover. The leaves have a pleasant sour taste.
