What do you think of VW discontinuing the Beetle?

The REAL beetle was discontinued decades ago. The "new" one was a BINO - front mounted, water cooled,  east-west inline four, unlike the genuine article's rear mounted, air cooled, horizontally opposed "boxer" engine.
My first car was a real one - and still the best car I ever owned, I'd be driving it still had not some idiot ignored a STOP sign and T-boned me. That made the little car very unhappy, the fire brigade had to cut me out of the wreckage.

I was kind of sorry to read that.  But, the hippie VW van is being brought back.  I think it might be electric or a hybrid.  Anyway, I have no use for it but my daughter is trying to get on a list to get one of the first ones that makes it into her state.

The last Type I rolled off the assembly line in Puebla, Mexico in 2003. They were built in Brazil and Nigeria into the 1990s.

No one makes them anymore then.....why did they stop making them..... .?

Manufactures don't want cars that are cheap to run or easy to repair....

Environmental concerns I think were the problem - catalytic converters didn't marry well with that engine, so the petrol regulations didn't suit it.

Modern cars are not really eco friendly......So  many electrical components become highly toxic if burnt or damaged and not recycled properly.....
They also create serious health issues to firemen ,ambulance crews and recovery crews that attended serious road accidents.....
Never mess around with burnt out modern vehicles as certain components poison you by just touching them with Bear hands

Doesn't affect me at all.  I never liked the look of that car and I still don't.

Thought it happened years ago, at least where modern standards applied.

Once upon a time our General Manager had one when he was a student, but now has a Porsche.
