The last time I used one was in the mid eighties.  It was electric.

I used one in the 70s.  I thought electric typewriters were amazing after using a manual.

Similar to driving a stick shift car to an automatic shift... This post was edited by Beans/SilentGeneration at March 28, 2018 8:45 PM MDT

About a week ago. I didn't really use one, though; I only listened to Leroy Anderson's fun "The Typewriter."

This song would have made me envious in the day.  I could only peck a key here and a key there.  I practically flunked typing in high school.  Yeh.  I was that bad.  I got my revenge though with having a laptop.  I type faster than my brain cells, hence my typos.  Oh well.

I do get a kick out of the song too.

  • My best guess is 1985.  I can't remember if it was pica or elite I liked better.

I learned to type on a manual typewriter.  (My dad sent me to learn how to type at the local business school during the summer when I was 12.---One of the best suggestions he ever gave me.)

I typed my assignments in English in the second half of junior year in high school---It took me about an hour to finish.  (It was rewriting paragraphs and putting the sentences in proper order---topic sentence, conclusion---that sort of thing.)  Others in my class were taking 4-5 hours by hand.

I graduated from the business school at the minimum 30 words per minute.  I finished my junior year at 90 words per minute.  I've maintained about 60 words per minute since then.

I still have the typewriter from my youth.  Last time I used it was to fill out some 3-part forms about 10 years ago.

Yeah, they still use them at our schools for those pesky triplicate forms.

I last used an electric typrewriter about ten years ago. Everything is word processors these days.

Manual typewriter? 1986, before Dad bought our first computer. Mum's old Underwood, weighed a ton and the keys kept getting stuck.

I believe they used whale oil for lubricating them back in the day.
