They didn't get the news of the first time. The first one they heard about was met with disapproval - when I told them she was pregnant. Mum in particular was horrified - staunch Catholic. My aunt Anne's reaction was particularly interesting, when Dad told her. "Hasn't the boy heard of condoms?" Aunt Anne is a nun.
I went to visit her when Dad told me about it. "Yes, I have heard of condoms. We broke one. Anyway, what would YOU know about it?" She got an innocent look, and said primly, "We get the theory!"

I had no father figure in my life at that time. My biological father had never been around, and my mother was divorced from my stepfather for many years by then. ~
