What do you do when someone's clearly got the hump with you and this has coloured their responses to you?

Personally, I prefer to explain, to try to clear up any misunderstanding.. But is there a better way? A more productive way?

Ok, forgive my regrettable ignorance of your charming British colloquialism, but are we talking about someone who has “a beef” with us? This post was edited by Don Barzini at May 11, 2018 7:56 PM MDT

What, am I your favourite person to pick on?  You do know that she's British, and that's how it's spelt there, right?  She hasn't done anything wrong.

(If you want to call someone out for a supposed slight, please do it yourself without dragging me into it, mate.)
