  • The British royal family is the House of Windsor, but titled royals do not usually have surnames. However, the hyphenated name "Mountbatten-Windsor" (combining Philip and Elizabeth's family names) is used in an official capacity for descendants of Philip and Queen Elizabeth. The name is used outright for some descendants of lesser rank, like James, Viscount Severn whose full name is James Alexander Philip Theo Mountbatten-Windsor.
