Having a land line was not and is not a problem.  That is the safest and most secure way to communicate outside of one to one physical communication.

You don't have to drive around looking for a pay phone. Occasionally someone would give up looking and they would honk the car horn all night trying to attract a cop's attention.

  • "No longer a need to carry a heavy shopping list."  Just call up the S/O and ask what they need.  :)

That wasn't a problem before mobile phones.  People communicated just fine.

Agreed. But that was before the instantaneous, real-time worldwide contact we now have in our hot little hands. People communicate incessantly now.

The word 'incessantly' connotes negativity. Therefore, this could be an answer to Randys other question.

I wouldn’t say it’s necessarily a bad thing, but can easily become so. I think of the fools who post every waking moment of their lives on-line.

Wait, you mean you don't want to see the new hair color Mom has chosen this week or peanut butter and jelly sandwich some kid is about to eat or vacation photos at the resort hotel or a complete stranger's newborn child or a speeding driver rant at the police officer who's issuing the citation or a swimming competition in Beijing or Little Biff getting a haircut or how Paw mowed the lawn in perfect symmetry or granddad drifting off to sleep in the rest home or a mom crying as her child starts kindergarten or the skateboard pratfalls of misguided youth or every bowel movement a college freshman makes or the latest tattoo that's been plastered in someone or the clothes a teen bought at the mall or . . .

No they don't.  The art of communication is suffering.  Just because people are playing with their little dufus gadget, communication is not assumed.

You're kidding, right?  What are you going to ask next?  The many uses of an auto and how it personally saves my day?

Flat tire. Modern cars don't have spares...just a can of Fix-a-Flat and a crappy air pump.

    Having a phone solved -

    * The problem of what to do with that extra $100 (or so) you have in your wallet each month (bless you, phone bill)
    * What to do with all that wasted time you spend driving in commute traffic - play Grand Theft Auto V (better than watching that boring road).
    * The mystery of why humans have thumbs but other animals don't.  OBVI - texting!!   (TBH)
