For those of you without smart phones, do you feel somewhat left out. (I don't own one.)

Here is mine and I don't feel left out.

  • I've been going to get one of those, but I can't very well justify a new phone when the old one still works just fine.

    I had to go out and support myself, get a degree and earn enough money to keep this house.

    Before that, I had a flip phone.  If you want to survive in this world and network with the world, you need a smart phone.

    Fortunately, I don't feel as though I need a smart phone to survive and I have no interest in networking with the world.  I'm annoyed I have to talk to people at work three days a week.  I have an old LG flip phone which works just fine.  People are attached to their phones as though they're umbilical cords.

    I'm not left out of anything that interests me.....trust me.  Until there is no small simple mobile phone that I can have that is what I'll have.  After that, we'll see....probably a pager.  I will not carry a big ugly smart phone.

    Wow maybe I need to feel left out because I DO have one, and I love it and wouldn't ever want to be without it.. .It's a tool, just like anything else, use it for good or waste time on them - the choice is ours.. 

    I was in hospital about a week and few days ago... I was able to message my little, (OK she's nearly 17) girl to tell her not to worry, to tell her I was ok, to tell her to just concentrate on her exam next day.. I was able to have a group family chat and my older son told me he was glad I was going to be ok...  I was able to say good morning to them all every morning, and goodnight every night...  

    I was also able to tell friends I was ok... and chat to friends to pass the time...

    And in between that, I was able to read a) a story I've been reading and dip into whenever I can, b) several books associated with my course.. when my eyes were too tired to read, I did some colouring in on a mosaic type app.. 

    So people are entitled not to have a smart phone, I am happy if they are happy, but for me - I embrace technology and use it to enhance my life and I've seen no downsides.. This post was edited by Adaydreambeliever at May 25, 2018 5:29 AM MDT

    I am with you on this one. My smartphone was a godsend during a hospital stay. Group texts and photos kept friends and family in the loop.

    Well, I have a smartphone and I do love it.

    Those old "Ma Bell" land lines were way too reliable.

    Now that I have a smart phone, it can be lost at anytime, the battery could have run out, or "I might not have gotten your text or voicemail."

    For once in my life I can be truly free from those who would prefer that I be reachable 24/7---mostly without hurting their feelings.

    I have one, I don't use most of the apps, don't like the fact that you can be spied on so have a plaster on the camera, being able to compare prices in shops has been handy, and using it for directions.  However, the invasion of privacy element may lead me to revert back to an old mobile or landline, I leave my in the car or at home quite a lot.
