Sad but true.  I agree.  It's tragic to me.  As much as I enjoy our friendship through typing to you, I would like to meet some of our friends here person to person.  You included! :) :)

Yes, I think so.. and the younger generation seem more into that than ever.. .My daughter has an online boyfriend.. I say to her, well that's nice dear but wouldn't you rather have a boyfriend who is here and who you can see regularly and spend time in real life with? No, she says and her reasoning is that to her the online relationship is real...

But they often don't go out... or meet real people.. they often don't have real friends...

SO my answer is yes, sadly

    Becoming? That ship sailed.

Twitter, Facebook, GrubHub, Pornhub, Amazon, Online dating, online universities, online banking, online gaming, Netflix and Google (all available on your phone or tablet) displace most of the reasons to have direct human contact at all.  This post was edited by Don Barzini at May 30, 2018 12:20 AM MDT

    Agreed.
    I don't think it's a good thing, either.

    Not good at all.
People zombie-walking behind their phones into fountains and glass windows isn’t funny anymore.

     self absorbed with
    instant gratification
    easy to stay in Ego,
    stay in command for some.
         two people
    walking down the street together
both texting each other and laughing etc
    after the other persons text
but never looking at each other.
    ...funny or?

It would be funnier if they walked into the street and got hit by a truck...while the driver was texting.

I personally like seeing and talking. I don't like touching, though. I don't know why. The only electronic communications I use are this desk top and an old flip phone that I rarely use.

You always have the perfect counter for him.  I enjoy the two of you so much.  It is priceless!!  Hugs and loves (knowing hugs aren't going to bother you!) This post was edited by Merlin at May 31, 2018 7:29 AM MDT

There is a side of me that immediately wants to gather you up, put you on the desk top, flip you on your good side and smother your cheeks with kisses all the while ruffling your Einstein hair (even more than it already is,)  supplying you with more electricity than you would know what to do with and giving you all the energy you would need, *freely, of course*  to make you laugh and say, "Touch.  What a concept."
Then, there is the sensible, polite, and well-mannered side of me that, out of due respect, would never attempt nor dislodge your wishes.
I'm still not sure I could or would settle on just a handshake.  Big winks and smiles.... we could compromise on a "real" hug and a "It's very nice to finally meet you in person."
    Love,

They always have been. Did you ever notice that old houses always had porches? People would sit there in the evenings and chat with neighbors. Then the radio was invented, but radios were kept inside, so people would stay inside to hear concerts or speeches. The porch was slowly forgotten, and neighbors are now strangers.

It sure is. I have lived here for ten years and don't know the names of any of the neighbors.

Of course, that's partly because in this part of the country nobody goes outside except to get in their car.

Quite a shame. I can roam my neighborhood at night.

Your analogy is right on.  At least, though, they were still together indoors and experiencing the same broadcast.  I would like to think that porches would come back.
We are all so afraid of our neighbors, we have forgotten how it was to help and trust them.
Underneath it all, I would like to believe we all still want to be kind to one another.  Look at us on the internet.  If you and I were neighbors, we would for certain help each other.  Yet, if we never took a moment to find out who our neighbors were, we would continue to live in fear of them.
Granted, Don and I have been robbed by a person whom we considered a friend and  was a neighbor.  He was in a hard place in his life and we went so far as to take him into our home.
We have sense moved and not heard from him sense.  Not a big surprise.  It really crushed us, especially Don.

What ever happened to sitting on the porch with your neighbor and sharing some iced tea?  What ever happened to lending a helping hand to the guy next door?
I"m glad I was born and raised as I was.  I am very sad for this next generation.  Thanks for listening and reading Jewels Vern.
    It's nice to see you.
And, yes, I would invite you over to swap tales and have some iced tea if I had a porch.... still !
    Happy! Happy!

I had to come back and edit.  The "Granted...." sentence was very confusing. I needed to clarify.

I love sitting on my front porch. We chat with anybody who walks by and we even have a container of doggie treats. We wave to the children, watch birds, squirrels and rabbits doing their things. We even had a deer across the street last week. If I didn't have a porch I would miss all of those things.

I've always wanted a porch, seriously I have expended a good deal of longing for one and many a thought about why I can't have one. We Brits don't have porches...... IMO the worse thing about Britland is that we don't have porches, IMO it's the one thing that makes us inferior....  My life would be so different if only I had a porch. And before anyone asks, yes I am being serious... always wanted one and bemoan the absence of one.
