What qualities do you look for in people you like or admire?

For me, intelligence is a must, humour is also very welcome..  Humility is quite cool, but mainly it's intelligence and wit.

Funny you should say that, as originally, when I wrote the question, I added, 'humility' - which is pretty much the same thing.. So I agree :)

A sense of humour. Particularly the ability to laugh at oneself.

Absolute rubbish, we all know you are one of the wittiest people on here! Why, you are even wittier than me, and we all know I am outstandingly witty.

It would be someone who can display good communication skills, wit and a demonstrable intelligence. Someone who puts effort in their appearance, but not vanity. Confidence, but not douchebaggery. Likable, but not a suck up.

..and it helps if they are accomplished in their life.

Love the word, 'douchebaggery' that should surely make it into the next edition of the dictionaries :) I hate suck-ups too - maybe that's why I will never get a promotion :P

Agreed. There's certainly not enough kindness and tolerance around these days.

  • intelligence, honesty, responsibility, compassion, creativity
    excellent communication skills

I enjoy wit in certain forms, such as illogical twists of the unexpected,
but I loath sarcasm and passive-aggression trying to pretend to be funny.

Lots of new ones in there - I hadn't thought of compassion, for instance - and yet that's very, very important to me. I struggle with those who are cruel and uncaring to others.

  • Excellent point.

Someone who's fairly happy most of the time is likely to have an above average level of sanity.

They do say that, don't they? I definitely think there's something in that if someone exudes confidence in themselves that makes them attractive.
