The only thing we know about time is that it only goes one way.

Two contrasting viewpoints on time divide prominent philosophers. One view is that time is part of the fundamental structure of the universe – a dimension independent of events, in which events occur in sequence. Isaac Newton subscribed to this realist view, and hence it is sometimes referred to as Newtonian time.[15][16] The opposing view is that time does not refer to any kind of "container" that events and objects "move through", nor to any entity that "flows", but that it is instead part of a fundamental intellectual structure (together with space and number) within which humans sequence and compare events. This second view, in the tradition of Gottfried Leibniz[17] and Immanuel Kant,[18][19] holds that time is neither an event nor a thing, and thus is not itself measurable nor can it be travelled.

Time in physics is unambiguously operationally defined as "what a clock reads".[6][17][20] See Units of Time. Time is one of the seven fundamental physical quantities in both the International System of Units and International System of Quantities. Time is used to define other quantities – such as velocity – so defining time in terms of such quantities would result in circularity of definition.[21]

    (Wikipedia)

Time is sometimes defined as the measurement of things that change.  .

Time is an invention of the human mind to measure the change through space.  Some theories state that we may experience many NOW's piled on top of each other, but rarely do people live in the present but instead to the past and future.  The double slit experiment also showed that the observer affects how particles act and how their could be a multitude of outcomes. Time may merely be relative to the person because it's the persons mind.

Interestingly, a clock is a circle measuring 360 degrees and measures 12 hours, and a day makes up 24 hours a day.  The zodiac clock has 12 signs, and three signs per season, the four fixed signs are Taurus the bull who represents the earth element, Leo the lion who represents the fire element, aquarius the water bearer who represents the air element, and scorpio the scorpion/phoenix/eagle that represents the water element.  In the catholic church these are applicable to matthew, mark, luke and john. The god that ruled time was Saturn/Chronos, old father time which is what The river Thames in the UK is named after.

    "Time . . . flowing like a river
    Time . . . beckoning me
. . . time keeps flowing like a river, to the sea."

~ partial lyrics to the 1:15 mark of "Time" by The Alan Parsons Project

     - - later lyrics -  - "time keeps flowing like a river, to the sea, to the sea, til it's gone forever, gone forever, gone forevermore."

Wow! As I listen for the first time in a long time - -  this song has held up great over the years!
