Nothing probably. I was in a short line-up at the drug store when a guy reached over and grabbed a carton if cigarettes from a shelf behind the cashier, stuffed in his his jacket and walked out. Nobody said or did anything.
Food items are a tricky one for me because hungry people need to eat. Kroger/Ralphs, Walmart or wherever are probably still going to be doing well anyway, regardless if he/she gets caught or not. And it's not like they can put it back on the shelf if it's been down somebody's pants, so it would probably get thrown away. I'd either pretend I didn't see it, or I'd offer to buy it for them.
