Update for gun folks and non-guns. If you're bored with King don has something to divert you. A distraction packed with action. Good, yes?

A 2-year-old dies of a self-inflicted gunshot wound alone in a bedroom in a Fresno, Californis home. Fresno Police Department Lt. Rob Peck told station  KFSN the parents weren't home but the child was being watched by family friends. It is unclear to whom the gun belongs.

Merrillville, Indiana a  3-year-old shoots her pregnant mother from the backseat of a car. The gun was a 9 mm glock  19 for those of you who are familiar with guns

In a hotel in Wickliffle, Ohio a mother accidentally shoots and kills her 2-year-old daughter

To be honest, so am I. Because of the rise of the caustic hatred I'm witnessing here, I find myself signing into AM less and less. I can't, for the life of me, understand how some people can live with so much hatred in their hearts.

Can you believe your answer just got cut? You didnt say anything offensive, just the truth. This is turning into a commi site. Im beginning to not want to come back. Too much hate. ;(

I deleted it myself. Mainly because I wrote it with a bit of anger in my heart. That's not who I am. I'm not an angry, vengeful person but I sometimes get very frustrated at the amount of, as you put it, commi, and I might add, angry, fascist/socialist-minded rhetoric being displayed. I agree, I to am beginning to not want to come back. I want to thank you for your concern. It's people like you and my2cents that keeps me coming back. :)

Well I for one would like you both to stay.  Just remember if you need to take a break from the politics section.

If we had a politics section you mean. All I see here is a one sided hate-a-thon that shows no tolerance to anything other than the askers opinionated questions. Dare you try to disagree with her, you either get the silent treatment or a nasty remark in favor of her standing. Either way, its all about who hates trump the most, and if you dont follow the heard of sheep into the hate-a-torium, you are shunned off as a Nazi or Racist. My idea of a political section is one that allows different views and opinions without being attacked for not agreeing with the asker. Sounds pretty one sided to me. More like watching someone talk to themself in the mirror, and agreeing with everything they say along the way that fits there strict addenda. Im not a sheep. I would rather have an argument with my parrot than try to have a discussion in one of these one sided questions. You cant win for losing when you get dragged into a question you will never get right unless you agree 100% with the Asker. Not my cup of tea. Dya think?

Ok then take a break from the corner....we all know what is here. Personally I don't mind it....it keeps in the kmow and keeps me evaluating my positions to confirm why I believe what I believe. That is actually why I like the politics section (the corner) and the religious section.  I figure if I believe something I should be able to defend it. If you just hear the same parroted opinion over and over....you never know what falseness you may fall for.

But I even take a break every now and then.

The people whom are not securing there firearms from toddlers/children should be charged with child endangerment. Just as if they would be for not supervising them properly and they got into prescriptions or anything else.

Shakes head.. so sad, so many people just can't work out why this keeps happening. . every day, every week, every month more people are killed in America by guns than those killed by terrorists in a year.. or indeed several years.. It's alarming but people have their heads in the sand about this.. so all we can do is sit helplessly by and wait and hope that will one day wake up

And every year there are 20times as many children accidentally drowned and at least twice as many children who are backed over with a car than are accidentally killed with a firearm.
Do we ban pools, tubs and automobiles?

If guns were banned do you think people might realize they don't really need guns?

No, I believe both assault and sexual assaults would increase because the victims have no way of defending themselves from bigger stronger preditors. Just as it did in Australia after they banned firearms.

Bear spray or pepper spray is quite effective and nobody gets killed or badly damaged by the stuff. I have heard of it being used here where it is very difficult to legally get a gun, especially a handgun.

Well that isn't the case in most countries... and most defence experts would say that if, as a woman,  you have a weapon, be it a knife or anything else, then this increases the chances that you will get hurt with it, as in the attacker can take it from you and turn it on you..

I know that is what is claimed many times. But after looking at the stats I have not found that to be true in any country.

Hmm makes sense though... if you think realistically, women being weaker, actually are highly unlikely, at close quarters, to be able to inflict enough of an injury, with a knife, and we are talking that it would need to be quite a big knife at that, to be able to get away.. the aim is to injure enough that you can run... and quite simply once you have made your strike, probably with a silly titchy knife, the chances are all you have done is anger the attacker and he can then, being stronger, take the knife from you and use it to threaten you..  I am not sure about stats but I do know that those who teach defence to women do say that you are better off with spray and non-weapon tactics which allow you to escape and the reason given is that a weapon can be turned against you..  I think this is about weakness, strength and the size of weapon needed to inflict enough of an injury and your chances of escaping after ONE stab before he grabs the knife and uses it against you..

while looking i did see someone who trained women in self-defence say knives were a bad move.. and I know self defence teachers here say no dont go there.. .but I am thinking this would be impossible to get stats on.. simply because women don't go around carrying weapons..

Ahh but when you add in the not-accidentally killed, then the stats are really alarming..  And not just children.. I think it's a red herring to concentrate on accidental only because the facts are that every month more people die by guns than a whole year in terrorist attacks.

If there were not guns people would use something else to kill with....ie. UK is using Zombie knives currently, Australia suicides by hanging increased, and we know cave men or Cain (whichever you believe in) certainly used rocks.....guns are simply a tool people use...for good and bad.
I have not looked at stats for including purposeful use of cars, drowning vs firearms. I may do that and get back to you.

Out of context my friend.. please do be careful of reading a few sensationalist headlines and coming up with the wrong conclusion.. Let's set the record straight.. a) knives are NOT used, or even useful in protecting women against rapists.. all the experts agree.. b) we have an unprecedented SUDDEN increase in knife crimes IN THE CITY of London, and arguably one or two other cities, e.g. Manchester, Birmingham.. but this is a) associated with gangland tensions and drug crime IN DEPRIVED parts of the city..

Furthermore.. the numbers killed by knife crimes, even with this relatively new phenomenon doesn't even make a dent on the kinds of numbers you guys have there for death by guns..  The simple fact is.. MOST people, in fact relatively few, do not own or carry a knife.. and If you compare a knife attack to a gun attack.. you are much less likely to be killed if someone comes at you with a knife.. Hospitals agree.. you are more likely to survive and be less injured with a knife than a gun..

DO bear in mind as I say.. it's NOT like we here have ever or do now have a situation where loads of people are carrying knives and using them to maim others
