What TV series identifies for you, your 'era' - perhaps something that everyone your age watched and you all talked about next morning?

I think for me it was Auf Wiedersehen Pet.. a series about a group of construction workers who went over to Germany to find work.. There were follow up series and we watched them grow and develop.. rise and fall, fall and rise.. The theme song was pretty cool.. A couple of clips below.. We also liked The Young Ones about a group of students, it was very cutting edge and anarchic - I guess it appealed to young people back then, when we all thought we were invincible :P

I guess the biggest thing back then was the mini series Roots. We were all glued to the TV. We talked about it endlessly, then felt like idiots when it came out that it was all just fiction.

That’s the one. Turned out none of that story was true. Regardless, it was a really good Mini series with some great actors.

Most often mentioned was "Leave It To Beaver", but my era was characterized by talk shows.

    ~ Hollywood Squares

The TV shows that "identify me" ... aren't what "everyone" was watching.  At least not in my area.  LOL

Star Blazers (aka Space Battleship Yamoto)
    Voltron

But once my dad got home, we had to watch:
    HeeHaw
    Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom
    Disney
... and heaven help you if you thought you could change the channel because dad fell asleep (and was snoring) in his Lay-Z-Boy.

EDIT: Oh!  And of course ... Dr Who.
I think my family may have been the only ones in the city who watched the original series.  LOL

Wild Kingdom was fantastic! I day-dreamed that Marlin Perkins was my grandpa and took me on wild animal adventures all over the world!

"Mutual of Omaha is people you can count on when the going's tough".

Guess who has a DVD boxed set of vintage Wild Kingdom episodes?

All my boyfriend's family watched Wild Kingdom on Sunday evenings so that was the only time we could sneak off to his bedroom undisturbed.
