She was pretty good but I think her role would not of been so believable if she didn't have those flying monkeys. Anyway my nomination goes to Klinger on the TV series MASH he seemed perfect for a guy trying to get out of the Army with a section 8. Cheers and happy weekend!
The first is also from 1939 - Hattie McDaniel played Mammy in “Gone With the Wind”. Simply could not have been more perfect. She won an Oscar, accordingly.
A bit more recently, Burgess Meredith, who played Mickey in the Rocky movies; particularly in the first two.
Unusual-to-me choices but I like them! Both are performances that were both probably so good that they slipped by because the actors did it seemingly all so easily. :)
Good Call! I agree. He brought that character to a whole new level by bringing out the "dark" joker. It's too bad he died before he could see how much people appreciated his work.
I'm a bit prejudiced in my assessment of Gosset's portrayal: I served in the Marine Corps, went through boot camp, had Drill Instructors, and years after seeing the movie, I was also a Drill Instructor myself, so I had a first-hand impression of what was authentic and what was not. Gosset gave a first-rate rendition ~
He would be RIGHT up there for me, too!!! - - DiCaprio is beyond amazing in this film. Understated and completely honest.
When I first saw the movie, I was unfamiliar with DiCaprio and I thought the producers had hired a young guy with actual special needs to portray this character. Completely believable! His performance is in my top five for sure. :)
