How do you feel about all schools being be-lingual? Why not have us all speak the same language, verbally, on an intellectual level?

Hi Randy D~ You know I know I am in trouble when I address you by your given name and not an affectionate one.  (The word affectionate is trying to butter you up. ;)) 
I have no excuse.  I did not proof read before I hit the "Post Reply" button. I see the error in my ways.  I did not show proper respect for the written english word nor the means of communication. Is written English word supposed to be capitalized?  You can add it to my demerits  if it is.  At least I caught it before submitting. :)  That erases the demerit. ;)
Even though you might like me to "beg" for forgiveness, I humbly suggest I show you instead.  Right here in front of everyone, I do know how to spell illiterate. Oh Wait!  it was bilingual. 
English:  I can spell bilingual.
Spanish: I can spell bilingue (with two dots on top of the u.)
French:   I can spell bilingue (no dots on top of the u ..)

Here's a fun stat: 56% of the world is bilingual or multilingual; just 20% of Americans are. 

A whole lot of other countries teach English as a second language from a young age. Here, it's somewhat rare unless the parents teach it at home. My kids go to what's known as an "IB School," IB meaning International Baccalaureate. It's a more civic-minded way of teaching. Instead of just learning basic school material, they learn values, what it means to be part of a community, what other cultures are like, how to take care of others and the world, and how to challenge themselves to be better students as well as more rounded people. My kids get more opportunities to learn new things too. For example, they both started attending Spanish class a few times per week starting in kindergarten. Although my oldest child attended the same school a decade prior, it wasn't an IB school at the time. He didn't learn Spanish. He was offered a language at the junior high level and he decided to do a couple years of Mandarin. In high school, when a language was required for graduation, he took German instead. I also took German to fulfill my requirements. 

For me, it was difficult to learn a language later in life. The younger kids are, the easier it is for them to pick it up. So, I fully support my kids learning a second language now. Being in Arizona, Spanish is the easy choice. They'll get a lot of use out of it here. It's one of the most-spoken languages in the world regardless- well worth learning. 

Why not have us all speak the same language? It isn't feasible. If we were going to switch, the logical choice would be to the language spoken the most. It happens to be Mandarin. Spanish is second. English is third. So... I guess it's time for more American schools to start teaching something other than English to facilitate the shift, eh? 

*Bilingual. And schools aren't bilingual, people are. As to the question, even if it is feasible, how would the second language be decided? In a place like NYC, there are neighborhoods where Chinese (multiple dialects), Korean, Spanish, Russian, and Vietnamese are spoken, just to name a few.

And where is the funding for all of this to come from? Are you willing to have your taxes raised to pay for it? If so, I bet you're in the minority.
