What ignites your passion?

What makes you happy inside doing?
I have a friend who gardens. She knows all the Latin names and all the proper times to plant anything that grows in her time zone.
She plants her knees on the ground and sticks her hands in the dirt. Says dirt is life.
And for an hour or two she goes somewhere else.
What do you do takes you somewhere else?

  • "I love to go riding!"  No destination required.

  • Riding yes. You know? I used to ride a while ago, but then I had a spill and was never able to get my nerve back up. I think it's the closest thing to flying without leaving the ground.
    Great passion.. Thanks for responding.

  • Sorry to hear that your spill put a damper on your riding, Dystopian. A motorcycle has been a part of my life for decades and if I erased all the memories that motorcycles have brought me ... my life would be very different.

Anyway ... it appears that you haven't been on AM very long, so I'd like to welcome you to the site. I hope you enjoy your stay.

  • Well you know what I did to compensate? Now I drive a convertible. I mean, not a super 007 kind of convertible, but I csn feel a little free still. I'm thinking about giving riding another try this coming year. Guess we'll see. Thanks for the welcome ALF. :)

  • Yes ... a convertible gets you close.  Good thinking!.  I've owned a couple of them myself.  Best of luck with whatever you choose to do.  :)

Music, reading, looking at art.  Do have a garden of sorts but does not take me "somewhere else" - it is very much a weekly responsibility.

  • I do share your gardening woes. I started one beginning of the year. Went way too big to be able to handle it. Pulling weeds became a daily pain in the ass. After getting a watermelon the size of a baseball, I thought whatever, let the weeds do as they will. And they did. I'll try it again next year.
Music, yes. I feel the same about that. What kind of music if you don't mind me asking. This post was edited by Benedict Arnold at October 19, 2018 4:39 AM MDT

I love concert music and my husband opera.  When we moved here I had an area in our front yard plowed up for a garden.  At that time I heard a lecture on rain gardens so I tried to plant one but the droughts we had killed most of the plants and part of the time we were not home for me to properly tend it. Which has pretty much been the pattern every year and every year I introduce more non-native plants so that idea pretty much went out the window.  But there are enough blooms and foliage for me to enjoy.  I don't attempt vegetables because they would be eaten by various animals we have in the area.

I've never been passionate about anything. That's how I was raised. No worries...I can't be disappointed.

  • Outdoor activities. I love to hike, especially alpine environments, and will travel great distances to do so.

  • Oh man I wish I could do that. I think I would feel very small facing some monstrously gigantic mountain ridge .  where's the fardest place you've gone to hike??

  • Yes, mountains can make you feel small but yet the feeling of being on top of one is like nothing else :)

I guess "great distances" is relative. The farthest I've traveled to hike was 1500 miles.

  • Standig on Crown Point Oregon looking down at the Gorge and the tree tops below is the closest I can relate to that and I'm sure it doesn't come close. I mean, I still drove up there. 1500 !! Of say that's pretty far!. Thanks for sharing Lenina.

Ya I would love to post some of my Christmas photos but it kind of depends on if Santa brings me a new digital camera.  I think I have some old Christmas photos in my profile . Cheers!

Fronting a band, belting out songs. Especially ones that I've written.
