If Birthright-citizenship is ended, what will determine citizenship?



If a baby is born in the US, How will it become a Citizen?
Does one of the parents need to be a Citizen? Which one?
Should EVERYONE born in the US NOT be automatically be a US citizen?
Should Citizenship be granted to people who are only here legally?
What if a couple is here with a legal Tourist visa and they have a baby here?

If the idea of ending Birth-Right Citizenship is being floated, the propopnents of the damn thing had better put on their thinking hats for this one...

    Leaving aside the question as to whether "Birthright" citizenship can be changed without changing the constitution, the US would have to develop an "American nationality law" governing the acquisition and transmission of American citizenship.

    Here is an article on Germany's nationality law.  It gives an example of the types of considerations that are important in such a law.  Also note that it is a law that has been re-formulated/changed over time.

    Citizenship should be granted to children of legal citizens, and legal immigrants.  Anyone else is a citizen their parents country.  If your parents are here illegally you are not a citizen.

    I think we should have paperwork.  On everyone.  

    We need to account for people's whereabouts.  The protections are for both undocumented person and the U.S. 

    Someone can easily disappear, get murdered, not get medical treatment, etc., if there is no way to even check up as to who they are and where they have been.  

    Stands to reason.

    Now that I know your M.O. is deleting your comment streams when you are called out, I'll just go ahead and comment here.
    This was NOT about a spelling correction and you know it, or your spelling is so bad it creates completely different words. You basically said you cant be Jewish and an American citizen simultaneously. I very politely suggested that you would be better served using Israeli as it pertained to dual citizenship, since "Jewish" it not a country to which one claims citizenship. you subsequently edited your comment to say "Israeli" instead of Jewish, to which I defended against a claim of anti-antisemitism by stating "one little victory" take em' when you can. 
    There, go ahead, delete this!!!!

    It will not be ended.  It will simply be enforced as intended.  Child born to legal immigrant on American soil will be a citizen.
