What makes for the best type of headboard? Do you take into consideration a headboard when shopping for a bed? ~

Oh yeah.  It is something you must look upon each time you rest.

I have a sleigh bed, its called.  It is wrought iron and is quite lovely.  I guess from the side view it is shaped like a sleigh.  I will look for one on here and show you.

While the bed is lovely, the mattress is really all that matters.

I discovered foam.   I took some of that firm by very giving foam that was in a couch seat.  It was big enough to cover the entire mattress.  So, when I lie down (lie lay lain? ) I fall asleep almost immediately.  I have no pressure on any part of my body and I feels like I am floating on a cloud.

So esthetics are important, but the mattress is the key.  I mean the bed has to be functional and inviting.

Kind of like this one, but no wood.  Just wrought iron.

Thank you, very informative, but you didn't specify about the headboard. Also, you used the correct word, "lie" down.

I think choosing a headboard depends on personal taste. I do take a headboard into consideration when shopping for a bed, however, that doesn't mean I have to buy the headboard that comes with the bed.  I quite like the DIY up-cycling idea when it comes to headboards.

You can even turn a headboard into something else...

All I know is that I don't much care for the one you have:

But Baby, I've changed things up a bit since you stormed out of here in a rage that night!  Look, I have the kind that won't hurt your wrists, and in several colors for you to choose your favorite!  We'll do it your way this time, ok, Baby?  Well, do you like any of them, Baby?  I can get different colors, if that's what makes you hesitate. Baby, are you there?  Helllllllo, Baby?

Personal choice. My wife's is a tall, ornate wooden one. Mine is the wall. Headboards serve no purpose.

Several years ago, we decided to get an Amish- made bed.  The Amish are fine furniture craftsmen. Made in rural Ohio. The boss, Marvin Yoder, told me that since they don't use electricity, they have a waterwheel that spins on a nearby creek and this powers airtools to carve the wood. He hires a non-Amish driver to deliver furniture in a van.

Headboard?  What do you think I am - fancy shmancy or something (hi Rosie)?   I have never used a headboard since I left home and no way would I ever go back to anything heavy and monolithic. Beds to me should be user friendly and not looming over you and scaring you.

I have been a wall person all my adult life and a couple of my teen years.
