Can you recommend some great movies to watch with my adult kids over the holidays?

Pretty much any genre, other than gory horror, sci-fi or superhero is fine. Prefer drama and dramatic comedy (e.g The Family Stone, Love, Actually), suspense/thrillers/crime.  

Anything from the 60's to current is fine. Thank you in advance!

    How the Grinch Stole Christmas.

    Watch that one.  The stuff you like has zero to do with Christmas.

    I just saw A Star is Born with Lady GaGa.  It was so terrible I cannot believe she starred in that turkey and she cannot act.  And because it is Lady GaGa everyone is praising it and saying she will win an Oscar. I hope not.  She is capable of so much more.  This was rotten.

    I admit  I've not seen any of the movies -- I think there are at least three movie versions of the story maybe. I might be wrong, though.
    Streisand's "Evergreen" is wonderful to me.

    ( I've been really busy - have lots to catch up on on the site. Another time, though. )

  • My pleasure. I tried posting ones that weren't box office smashes because most everybody has seen those. The ones that I posted aren't Oscar-winning, but well worth a look see ... I think.  Anyway ... enjoy and Happy Holidays.

  • I loved Overboard.   Goldie was always a favorite of mine, and she and Kurt are so great together in that film.    Have you seen Seems Like Old Times?   Another good one with her, Chevy Chase, Charles Grodin, and a bunch of cute doggies.

    I've never seen "Overboard," only small clips here and there. I really like Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell both.

    Hey, I thought of this for some reason looking at your Kick-A**-I-Love-Her-Always-Endora avatar -- I love "Citizen Kane" and Agnes Moorehead is INCREDIBLE in her small but pivotal role! Wow!

  •  I have GOT to watch Citizen Kane.   I should be ashamed of myself for not having seen it.    Yes. Check out Overboard with Goldie and Kurt. It's such a fun movie.   Also, Seems Like Old Times.  I have seen it at least six times.  SO much fun.

    Yes, I've only heard the exact same thing from others, too, about "Overboard" that you've shared.

    "Citizen Kane," as you know, is so often considered the best movie ever made. And I cannot argue that -- it blew me over in so many ways. Enthralling. Timeless. I can't think of any exact adjectives to describe it.

    "magnolia"  (1999)   -- drama

    "A Little Romance" (1979) 
    -- romantic comedy -- incredibly appealing performances from everyone; in Paris, revolves around an American young girl who meets a young French boy; Diane Lane's film debut; it may revolve around young people but, to me, the movie works really well for audiences of any age; I saw it as an adult and loved it

    "Memento" (2000) - - "neo-noir psychological thriller/crime" -- Guy Pearce is amazing

    "A Prairie Home Companion" (2006) - - comedy

    "S.O.B." (1981) -- comedy -- SO funny to me!


    I like all of these movies a lot. But SHARONNA/The IRS wants TRUMPIE makes a good point, too.

  • Bohemian Rhapsody, is a great bio of Freddie Mercury, nicely sanitized for the whole family.  The music alone is worth the price of admission even for those few who don't know Queen!

    I'm trying to remember what we watched! One thing that I somehow remembered in a positive light and suggested was Red Dawn, the 80s original with Swayze and C. Thomas Howell, etc. (I think there has been a remake). My kids were laughing at how terrible it was, and I couldn't help but agree. Looking back to my youth, I probably just liked the actors! :)

    So nice to come back to this post! That was an incredible holiday. We had an amazing adventure that I know we'll all treasure always.

      I saw “Red Dawn” when it came out, the theatre was full of other active duty Marines like me, and we absolutely howled at how ridiculous the so-called “combat” tactics and strategies were! Hollywood at its finest! Lol.
