There was one of these next to a golf-cart path in Charles SC. A southern copperhead. I picked it up with a club and tossed it into the woods. Quite docile.
I lived in a rental in Ft. Lauderdale that had them crawling through the living room. I still cannot believe I endured that for 3 months. No wonder I used to drink.
When I was a little girl, I loved catching tadpoles in the creek. I always used my bare hands but my parents didn't like that so they got me a little net to use instead. One day I was trying to catch tadpoles and a snake lunged out of the water and attacked the net. That pretty much scared me away from messing around in the creek. I don't know what kind of snake it was but it may have been a water moccasin as I've encountered them in my yard before as well. I may have accidentally disturbed that poor snake though, I didn't even know it was there but luckily it went for the net rather than my hand.
