SLEEPING HABITS. Generally speaking, do you have any quirks about things being a certain way in order for you to sleep well?

Regardless of the weather outside or the temperature inside, I almost always have to have my feet covered when I sleep. Even if it's only a thin sheet or light blanket, I can't have my toesy-woesies, my little piggies exposed to the air.  I don't know how it why this is, but I'm sure it has something to do with having been born and raised in a place that had 9 months of cold weather per year.

  • The biggest thing is that I prefer for it to be as dark as possible. Any amount of light coming through the window tends to disrupt my sleep so I use blackout curtains in my bedroom. If needed, I'll wear one of those sleep masks, but that's not my preference.

I agree with you about having a pitch-black bedroom, it’s great for a good night’s sleep, so cozy and comfortable.

I have to have something covering me - in warm weather a sheet will do, in colder weather, a comforter.  I sleep on my side, so I also have to have whichever ear is exposed covered, too.

I cannot sleep if I know the closet door isn't fully closed or any drawer or cupboard isn't shut properly even if it is in a different room.

But wait, if you close the closet door, how can I watch you while you sleep?  Oops, I didn’t mean to say that out loud . . .

    I like things quiet.

I get irritated when the birds start their yelling  -- as early as 3:37am (yes, I checked the time the other night when they woke me) and they continue yelling nonstop for the next five hours.

    :)

That's all out of my control, though, other than wearing earplugs.

    I do, too, Sharon. Ha!
    :)

And I know and remember you have birds living with you and you love them. I like birds in general, too - - it's just that early morning racket that I find challenging at times.

    1. Closet door has to be closed
    2. The fan has to be on regardless of the temperature inside.
    3. The bedroom door must be closed and locked.
    4. There must be at least 90% darkness.

I like the soft continuous sound of a fan going.

Yes. I like it dark and quiet. I often wear foam earplugs so I can't be disturbed by my wife's snoring and carrying on in her sleep.

I'm seriously thinking about wearing earplugs. I've never tried them.

They're terrific. If you put them in correctly, you won't hear a thing.

No just need to feel tired and sleepy which at my age comes easily. Similar to you I prefer being under a sheet even in warm weather.  In cold weather two quilts, two blankets, and a sheet.

I can't sleep on my back unless in a state of profound exhaustion - say after a 20k hike up and down a mountain.

I have to have a fan on.  Some soft music helps too, but there's nothing like a little breeze on my face to help me relax.

I live in Arizona.  The hot part.  Still, I have to have a blanket on me.  Not a sheet either.  A nice blanket.  I need to snuggle in my mind.

Sleeping is not my forte'.  Therefore, it has been a bit of a learning experience reading about your sleeping preferences.
I am a peculiar beast when it comes to sleep.
I have a really hard time turning off my brain.
I MUST have some noise or distraction in the room with me.  Recently, the TV with Planet Earth on works the best.
This not only makes sound, it creates light. So all dark and silence send me into a brain- whirlwind.
Mellow jazz and reading a book will work but Don doesn't like the direct light.  On the reading nights, I wear a head lamp.  I'm sure we are quite a sight! Him snoring and me reading like a coal-miner.
I must have weight to snuggle down.  I Need to feel the blankets on me, even in the heat.  I keep one foot out as my heat-regulator.  I sleep naked so I don't get caught up in all the sheets and fabric of a gown or t-shirt.  No socks.
All-in-all, I sleep best next to Don rhythmically snoring with the TV on and the window open.  I snore too, by the way.  I just never hear it. ;) :)
