Some wealthy, distant relative leaves you $100,000 per year to go into savings. After you make the first withdrawal, the deposits stop.

How long do you wait to start spending it?

  • It's the end of the road for us, then. You can keep the cheese knives with the little resin pigs. I'm just generous like that.

I would lodge it in a bank as security and get loans out if I needed it and the $100,000 would be paid in defiantly I think....

Ten years.  If I was younger, I would wait much longer.  But, I need the ability to live long enough to at least pass it on in a will or maybe I'll just wait 5 years and retire from this rat race and move to India. yeah.  I'll do that.  Five.

I would absolutely LOVE to come visit you in India.  I don't know if I could live there but I would Adore seeing it.  May I invite myself?  Just for a short little visit?  I don't take up much room and I'll supply food for all and drink and will work, happily, if need be. :) This post was edited by Merlin at June 16, 2019 1:57 PM MDT

Ah, see.  In this way I can get a rough idea of how old people on here are.

  • I'd shoot for 15-20 years and then I'd move off grid and live in a tiny home.

The best way to do that might be to move out of the states.  You know, some guy got in trouble for trying recently in Alabama. (I think that was the state.  Don't quote me on that part, please.)
They will find a way, somehow, to get cha.  If there isn't already a law, they will invent one, especially for you.  (squinting eyes and frowning...) This post was edited by Merlin at June 16, 2019 6:55 PM MDT

  • Yeah, from what I've learned, it seems New Zealand is very tiny-home friendly. The landscape is very diverse, from beautiful shorelines to big mountains, which is everything I love. It would be perfect for me :)

Do you think you could live comfortably for the rest of your life on 1.1 million? This post was edited by CallMeIshmael at June 17, 2019 5:33 AM MDT

Yes.  I'm hardly destitute now; this is just jelly on the toast.

I would need to make a spreadsheet and calculate it with all the variables, like interest rates and my life expectancy.  But, the quick answer is: until I think of something I want to buy with it and then I would wait until I had the needed amount.

Gee, what a great plan, Sweetie. A nest egg like that would finance a perfect little hideaway for two, I love the way you think!  I can be packed in no time!

Probably never, I do not need the cash.  I would take the cue of using it as collateral for a loan if I ever got hard up
