    Mary Long by Deep Purple. The song was about Mary Whitehouse she was the founder of the National Viewers' and Listeners' Association, whose remit was to clean up television which she perceived as corrupting the nation's morals. Included the lyrics to Mary Long. Cheers and happy weekend!

    Your song you posted -- I've always liked when I've heard it. But, oh - - it always has made me so sad.


    "Monty Got a Raw Deal"   R.E.M.

    actor Montgomery Clift - - (and perhaps referencing Monty Hall and 'Let's Make a Deal' ? I don't know. I know I've read much more that Clift is the inspiration.) 

    Great song to me.
    Great group.
    And I can only hope Clift had good-for-him moments in life, as opposed to the strong challenges he seemed to have had, based upon the numerous biographies I've read about him. What an amazing actor, too.

    EDIT: (Damn - - here for literally a second, I'm way behind in checking my notices here. Got to go back to work. Wish I could stay longer.)

    Very clever!

    I read this autobiography about Papa John. He wrote it.  So it is true. He held nothing back.  OH MY GOD.

    He did not put in the part about his incestuous relationship with his daughter, but all the rest is there.  It is hard to read.  They seemed like such a nice group of hippie children.  LOL

    Yeah, I've read here and there about some of the different life aspects with all four of the group members. Some challenges in there.

    I didn't know Phillips had written an autobiography -- I' m incredibly intrigued now and want to read it. But if you say it's a difficult read, then I don't know. But his talent as a songwriter. performer and singer blow me away. I only relatively recently read a scant little "something-or-another" hinting about something not-so-good about his relationship with his daughter. I didn't know it was that, though.(Mackenzie? The one on that TV comedy show from the 70's or 80's ? I cant remember the title.)

    But The Mamas and The Papas. I literally grew up listening to their music - - my parents and siblings were big fans. And I am, too. I always will be. To me, they are truly in a class to themselves -- those songs, vocals, harmonies, music -- wow!! There is no one like them for me. They've bettered my life. And they continue to do so.
    :)

    (I remember as a kid always waiting for the "change-in-the-punchline" line in this song - - "And EVERYBODY'S (everyone's?) getting fat EXCEPT Mama Cass.")
