Somebody bring me a mirror, I want to kiss myself!

Just introduce your friend to me.  I can do all of the punishing while you just relax.  I even sent you gift certificate to use!

It might help to have a conversation explaining why what you're doing is important to you and why you need concentration in order to do it.

Make an arrangement to spent time with them, as often as necessary to maintain a good friendship.

Ignore their attempts to distract you in all other situations.
When they realise that you won't break your concentration, but they can still have your attention at the agreed times, they will eventually give up and leave you in peace when they see you working.

If none of that works, you might need to create a room of your own. Lock yourself in, wear earplugs and muffs, etc.

One of my poet friends uses her car. She takes one afternoon a week to herself, drives to the beach where she has a beautiful view and parks under a big tree for shade. Switches off her phone. No computer. Just paper and pen. The peace allows her to write brilliant work.

  • Thank you, you always give very thoughtful advice. Now I feel bad for not being very serious in my question lol. I like the distraction. This post was edited by Benedict Arnold at September 28, 2019 9:10 AM MDT
