She must be a communist if she doesn't drink water. Hmm. Oh. Now wait a minute... The Russian communist is supporting Trump... How does this all fit together?! I'm confused...

I hadn't heard that.  You need water to live.  She better start drinking.

While this sounds like a joke, there is a kernel of truth to it. Many people (esp. the elderly) fail to hydrate adequately and dehydration can have various health consequences.

Example #1: I recently dealt with a bout of kidney stones. Part of the reason stones form is because dehydration raises the relative concentration of dissolved minerals in the kidneys. Under such conditions, the mineral are more prone to chemically bond and form solid particles.

Example #2: My mother was recently in the hospital after falling and breaking her hip. While on a phone call with my brother, she slumped and passed out. My sister and I freaked out, thinking my Mom had a stroke. The hospital sent in a CRASH team to resuscitate her. The verdict: She passed out because of low blood pressure to the brain stemming from...you guessed it...dehydration.

    Drink your water, people!

She has a serious condition, deep vein thrombosis.  I know that drinking plenty of water is recommended to avoid such a condition (for people who sit long periods, etc.) but don't know if it is part of the living with DVT protocol.  It seems logical that it would.
