It might not be mandatory but yet it will be expected by others, no?

  • If you're willing to let other people run your life for you ... they will.

If it looks good, then wear what you want, lol.

I'd say so myself, but how does the society look at it? Is there such thing as an age dress code thing?

This isn't about my individual views or acting around this. I know how not to lay under for such kind of things. I try to look at it from a society point of view.

    Not an official one.

Society seems to favour homogeneity as a supposed symbol of unity. People in thirties, forties, fifties, etc. should be dressed a certain way.

I read an article recently about how skinny jeans shouldn't be worn by women over
40 (I think). But I think if you can pull it off, why not?

Right so. I know I'd prefer some 50 or 60 years old wearing them rather than some of the teens I've seen not fitting inside a pair. Lol.

But yes, there seems being such wish for anonymising us, and have us fit into one homogeneous unity.

Sorry, the "like" and "thank you" features don't work on this particular thread, otherwise I would have posted one of each. :)

That is what I despise about it; i.e. that something completely undefined and utterly devoid of clarity can be so deeply ingrained in the minds of so many that it actually controls the thoughts and behaviors of subscribers.

Moreover, this completely unestablished, undefined set of "givens" often leads people to form broad judgements / conclusions about others as well.

I'm not so sure about the judgement/conclusions. It will all depend on how you emphasize them. We will be judging each other based on what we say, and/or how we behave. We do this all along, also if we don't apply to any 'rules'. IMHO.

    Hello c:

That's because when you get old, your belly is shaped like a balloon..  If you wore your belt in the middle of the balloon, a hiccup would make your pants fall down.  So, the ONLY way for an old fart to avoid that, is wear your belt ABOVE the balloon.  It looks kinda silly..  But, at that age, they don't care.

Am I talking about ME??  Nahhh.

Isn't that a body size issue, rather than age thing per definition?!

    Exhibit one:

    Exhibit two:

Again, my question is about age dress code. ;-)

  • I'd like to see a few put in place. If one is over 24 no backward baseball cap.  No hacking off sleeves from collared shirts and wearing that in public.  Stop this silliness of put sunglasses on the back of one's head when they are not needed.  Pajamas and slippers are for home, not out and about.  No obscenities on T- shirts.  No sagging.

What is your reasoning for these 'rules'? How come its 24 and not some other age, or no age at all that you cannot wear a backward baseball cap? What does age have to do with all this, and why?

I think no one should wear baseball cap backwards. But it is forgivable if you're under 15 of age. As for others, they don't matter to me.

And why is that no one should, and how come under 15 can be forgiven? How did you get to the age of 15? And last but not least, why can people not wear clothes the way they like, no matter their age?

  • Well ... then I guess my answer is "I don't know or care."

I've never been a "trend follower" or taken the time to study them.

To me, they hold nothing worth while and are at best a way for people to have their decisions made for them.

Lovely clip. My question was thought in the perspective of why we expect people to follow "trends appropriate to their age". But what will make something inappropriate simply because of an age? Hmm. Thank you for joining my question and sharing your thoughts. :-)

  • There are many of these things and their 'terms' will change depending on where you are.  While I can't speak for all of them, so far as I know in the west they're pretty much all silly and not worth taking any note of.

Yet a lot of people does, and they will look, or maybe even disapprove of you if not following what is considered as dress code.

No, common sense prevails, or should prevail.
