    Depends what is being simulated.

For the basic needs of life, there is no substitute for real things.

Im not so sure about that, if you want love to linger longer then eternity..... Men get bored with their toys very quickly and it's instilled in them from birth.....:)

The video is funny at first glance,
but not quite so nice when you really examine it.
One the one hand the human is trying to train the parrot to be nice to a toy bird.
But in nature, a forward movement with a direct forward gaze is aggressive. The human provokes the bird and then expects it to learn not to react with a counter-attack. That would end up with a highly neurotic parrot.

    I was relentlessly anthropomorphizing...

Also, did someone say something about a neurotic parrot?

Many species of parrots are native to Australia and some are very common in large flocks in the wild in my area.

The one in the cage is the Galah, or Pink and Grey Galah, or Eolophus roseicapilla. It can live for 70 to 80 years when well cared for.

The one on top of the cage looks like it's probably a Salmon-Crested Cockatoo. It can live up to 92.5 years and was native to Indonesia until it became a vulnerable and threatened species.

Because parrots are highly intelligent, they need lots of attention, stimulation, and play equipment.

Parrots are much happier and much less neurotic if they have a mate of their own species (be super-careful to get a bird of the opposite gender - pet shops are not always ethical.)

Your bird's behaviour in that video is not neurotic - just normal playfulness. He's excited and happy to see you and is doing his best to engage with you.

I will plead "guilty" to wanting lots of attention, stimulation and play equipment....

BOOK, Exactly.  That is just what I was typing.  Please forgive me, I forgot your real name.  I make nicknames for everyone.

But anyway, exactly.  Good info too.  I saw that human intervening, and the parrot was not even hostile until the human intervened with that aggressive thrust which freaked Mr. Parrot.  How was that bird supposed to figure out it is supposed to be nice?  Ok.  I'm done.  I'm erasing my answer.  It was but a paltry offering compared to this feast.   This post was edited by WM BARR . =ABSOLUTE TRASH at December 10, 2019 7:29 AM MST
