Animals can run and jump, but plants cannot. Plants can subsist off of water and sunlight alone, but animals cannot. This post was edited by Lady Ondine at January 25, 2020 7:58 AM MST

Animals can procreate without help (only need a fertile male and fertile female of the same kind). Plants require another species or element to procreate.

A plant can continue to live and grow even if virtually all of its body is removed from its root system.  An animal cannot survive this.

Plants create their own food (converting CO2 and water into sugars, using sunlight). Animals have to eat something else.
Animals can move from place to place - some plants are heliotropic (bend to follow the sun) but are fixed at the root.
