But I see that Karen makes as note of having to "unjoin" the Adult Group, which she wanted. I don't want to lose the access I now have, so I will have to stay as I am.BTW - as long as we are on the subject, I saw a note from Alfred22 that he was getting blocked in attempting to JOIN  the Adult Group (he is a friend from EP and found me here). The Internet was having coast-to-coast troubles and I couldn't get back to him to ask if he had this resolved. Can you check his profile and see if he was put on? (He doesn't know I am asking, but I am making this request in friendship with him.) Thanks in advance for getting back to me and whatever you can do.  less

I agreed and followed him.Back to my problem - I signed in a few minutes ago and saw in my inbox I had three "likes your post", but even though I have a person (another old EPer) who likes my posts, answerMug acknowledged he wanted me as a friend, but anything he wants to tell me about, it is prefaced from answerMug instead of coming directly from him. Is this another of the new changes? Thanks in advance.  less

Before I get started on this topic, I want to tell everyone who may disagree with me - save your electricity. I have both a stepsister and natural siblings, and have had a lifetime of experience growing up with both.
I never found out or heard who my older stepsister's father was (and I figure it was never any of my concern). Linda was born when my mother was 19, and seven years elapsed between that event and the days she met, dated, and married my father. Although Dad never legally adopted my stepsister, she called him "Daddy" like her three younger siblings did. I often dropped the "step" part and disliked the "half-sister" phrase - to me, she was my big sister and I was her "baby" sister.
Now, to those of you who are adoptees who never knew your own natural parents and were handed to a couple willing to raise you as their "son" or "daughter" - I feel for you. I really, really do. But there are too many of you out there that push your way into the family or families that that natural mother or father may be a ...    less

    August 15th, 2016.

Another wedding anniversary for my parents who are no longer here.

For many, many years, I could go to church and request that they be remembered at mass on that day, The presiding priest was more than delighted to do so.

Fast forward. The priest retired. Another one was installed.
He changed a lot of things. One of these was "no individual massages on Mother's Day, Father's Day, or Holy Days."

August 15th happens to be the Assumption of Mary - what the priest considers a holy day.The first summer after the old priest retired, I went to the new one, explaining carefully why I wanted my parents remembered. I was refused because it was a "holy day".

It's hard enough to not have them here than not be able to remember them on the day they became man and wife.

I know - I'm nobody special. But it gets harder every passing August 15th.

    Belated happy anniversary,Mom and Dad.

Maybe they even recall their own service in any of these, for however long they were deployed.

Everybody who was sent "over there" didn't always come back. If they weren't buried in enemy territory, they came home with something  - a knee, a hand, something else - damaged or destroyed. Many of the these brave individuals served in more than one conflict, and their children, if any, didn't recognize them when they returned home.

I was one of the luckier ones. Anyone from my family that served overseas came home in one piece, and my own father's service in the Merchant Marines was service stateside.

But it doesn't matter where it was. I respect these men and women who did what they did to keep us over here safe and sound - and what they continue to do and represent today.

If you loved and respected your parents, losing the people who give you life in this world is never easy. I try to respect and give comfort to those who suffer that loss. I NEVER tell them, "Get over it." I didn't appreciate it when I was told that. She was my Mom.

"Look how she's holding up," I heard someone say to someone else. "Not a tear."

No, I didn't cry then. It hit me hard, six weeks later, during a retirement party for a friend. Something - I don't remember what - rubbed me the wrong way and the tears began. I was 200 miles away from home, and, suddenly, so LONELY. It's a horrible feeling.

The teachers are patterned after my grammar school teachers.
When I was in grade school, we all had to enter the Science Fair. One of the guys had an exhibit titled "How To Prevent A Fire" and when he was talking to the judges, I don't know what he did, but he set the exhibit on fire. I was on the other side with my exhibit, a couple of kids away, and I saw the blue and green flames jump out of the exhibit, and - well, you know the rest.
I know growing up is different for everybody. But it's hard when a child is picked on for whatever reasons and is too timid to fight for her rights.
The theme? Growing up, of course - in two different families and two different ways, mid to late 1960's.

All the doors - auditorium, kindergarten entrance, inner/outer doors, gymnasium - were wide open to the outside. But where were the teachers? Where were the flames? And the source of the fire?

"Just what the HELL is this? Were you raised in a barn - all of you? I want you to go to your assigned seats now, sit down, and BEHAVE yourselves like ladies and gentlemen. No more noises, no more roughhousing - or you'll all stay after school for a week. Sit down and fold your hands. We have something to discuss."

With cautious, wary glances over their shoulders, the kids shuffled to their assigned desks. When we were going into the school on the far side, I glanced over to see the steady crowd of older kids streaming slowly up the stairs on the opposite side, each on carrying an item or equiipment into the open doors of the gymnasium. I remembered that the Science Fair had been delayed due to weather conditions and judging was commencing today.

I  turned my attention to Merry, who was walking a little steadier now, but still slow on the uptake in getting up the stairs. She acted reluctant to follow me and go inside. I stayed with her while she gave the information to the secretary/clerk, who filled it in for her. Her signature was shaky but clear. The halls were quiet, pending the noisy entrance of kids presently playing on the grounds surrounding the school proper. The only noise right now was at the far end of the hall, where the big double doors of the gym stood open. There was banging, crashes, laughter while the exhibits were being set up. I frowned and walked back. What was going on? She had been strangely detatched since she came back from the hospital. "Merry - what's going on?"

"I - can't go down there." It was a soft, hesitant whisper.
    .
    "You what? Whyever not?"

    "I got - I got - things I gotta do first."

    "Like what?"

"Well - " Merry looked around, then pulled a folded piece of gold paper from her books, something I hadn't noticed before. "I gotta sign in again and turn this in to he office."

"Oh, is that all?" I have a gusty sigh, trying not to sound impatient. "Do you want me to go inside with you?"

It was an offhand remark, careless. I didn't really mean the words I said. It sounded like I was talking to Annie before she we...    less

On Growing Up - Part Two (Continued.)

Annie sat alongside Papa in the front seat. I was in the back, but leaning anxiously against the confines od my lap seat belt, watching Merry get her bearings in the gate yard. She was swaying slightly, and I hoped that the return to school wasn't too much for her.

I glanced beyond the swaying, sweating girl to the dooryard. Merry's mom was standing in the doorway watching, and next to her, the rest of the peanut-sized space was filled with the tall figure of her father. Again, I felt that uncomfortable feeling of seeing him there. Both of them had their gazes fixed on their daughter.

Merry stepped onto the public sidewalk, still bracing herself on the gatepost. I wondered if I should get out and help her inside the car. But Papa never wanted us to leave the vehicle until we made our destination.

Merry leaned forward, bracing her one hand on the  side of the car. I held my breath as  she slid in and smiled weakly at me. I reached around her to close the door and lock it....    less

Hi, Alfred - I am so glad to see you here among the other EPers. Still waiting for Cousin Jack (Jac24) - he left town before EP completely went out and I haven't heard if he's gotten back yet or not. Can I recommend you a site? It's EP refugees. I belong to it. MaryJanine. (Check under "Groups")

Mike - I have two questions, little brother. 1.) I am used to calling you "Mike." Stuart refers to you as "Mike". Your new site refers to you as "Milke" und I know you like the name "Mike". I have variously called you both "Robin" und "Mike" but I want to go with what you want. What do you prefer your American big sister calls you? 2.) When you have a free few minutes - could you slip down to "Creative Writing" und check out the beginning of mein newest story? (I needs must apologize -it ist in fragmented form  - I am getting mein "wings" in this new place.) I value you as a Kritik und one arts loving person to another. I always like to know what you think. MaryJanine.

Mike - I noticed this Morgen you joined the Erotic Stories group. I got a similar invite from the Head Man of this group, und he sent me samples, but  (to mein credit) I did not pull a "prude" mood, nor did I blush. (I know alle the words). I said thanks, but no thanks. That's not me.But your poetry und stories are beautiful to behold, kleiner Bruder, erotic or no. I also see you joined my (requested) Creative Writing group (I asked for this group when I joined) und I am thirilled fuer that. I enjoy whatever you put online. Your prose speaks to mein Herz - the kleiner boy you once were, und the sweet grownup you now are. Never change. MaryJanine.

Guten Tag, Kleiner Bruder - Forgive your big sister, but I am SURE I saw your picture. I know "Mike" when I see it,und when it says it. This did both. As soon as I place this message to you, I am going to go back and verify it. You have already checked your listings, so I want to be sure of what I saw.Und - you are the beste kliner Bruder on either shore. I appreciate your words about mein writings. MaryJanine.

Hallo, Mein Kleiner Bruder! I don't know if you got mein last message  (I was unable to get in the last 2-3 days, don't have any clue why)but I was wondering if you have anything new in the venture line? I haven't heard anything about anything und I am dying of a disease called "curiosity". Danke, Mike. MaryJanine.

Guten Tag, Mein Bruder - I hope you und Michael und Sarah are all well. Just as a  quick note - I wrote another letter, but they placed it on the PC. I asked them if there was any way I could get a printed copy (for my scrapbook) und the editor ist going to mail me a printed copy to do so. When I get the printed copy, I promise to share mit you, Michael und Sarah. Would you please tell mein GroBe Bruder that I have done this und the text will be coming? Danke im voraus. MaryJanine.

Emma - I need to apologize. You tried to get me this morning and I had to keep taking you off because I was answering someone else and then almost immediately had to tackle a problem I had with my online rent persona (the office girl said she didn't receive the copy of my rental renewal)> MaryJanine.

Right now, I an going through my EMail and replying to the older notes. I didn't go on line one day this weekend and when I could go back (after doing a scan to check any possible viruses) on Sunday morning, I had 40 (yes, 40) notes to reply to.I am still playing catchup to everybody. Mary Janine. You can always leave a message on answerMug - I always reply to them. I do not stay on line constantly all day and chat - the people who call first get priority and then I follow in order of messages.

I assume this is Stuart. First Mike und then you. Let me keep TRACK  of mein friends! I am awfully worried about Cousin Jack. He hasn't communicated mit me und that isn't like him. When he left, EP was in its waning days of operation und he was going to see about coming here when he returned from North Carolina. That was three weekends ago. Keep gut thoughts. MaryJanine.

I can't help it. I worry about mein friends und relations. Mike will tell you that  - he thinks (I believe) that I worry TOO much. Like I said before, it's a sort of mental exercise for me. But I know Cousin Jack thinks you are a wundervoll friend - he has said so. I worry this time because he has confided he had trouble mit his heartbeat not long ago. But don't anticpate the worst, right? MaryJanine.

I am glad to see you appreciate my story. There is no circle on answerMug as we knew it on EP, but I have accepted you as a friend. This means you can answer or comment onto anything I post. MaryJanine. P.S. I am sorry I didn't get back to you sooner on this message. I was unable to enter answerMug for some reason for several days.
