A Russian navy submarine caught fire on Monday, killing 14 sailors on board.
Two independent Russian news outlets reported that the vessel was the AS-12 "Losharik," a nuclear-powered vessel that US officials have said is designed to cut undersea cables that keep the world's internet running.
Moscow officials have remained secretive about the type of vessel and whether it was nuclear-powered, prompting accusations of a cover-up.
President Vladimir Putin canceled a scheduled event on Tuesday and told his defense minister to "personally receive reports" on the investigation into the accident, Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty reported.

From microscopic plankton to intimidating, deep sea lantern fish, the creatures that live in the ocean are as varied and unfamiliar as if they lived on another planet. Among these strange looking alien creatures, the geoduck of the Northwest Coastal U.S. has earned a reputation as one of the weirdest looking (it might make you blush) and most delicious mollusks to meet the American plate. Here, now, is a primer on this sand burrowing bivalve.
What is a geoduck?
First off, it's pronounced "gooey duck." Contrary to what one might think, it's not related to a duck at all. The Nisqually — a Native American tribe located in western Washington — coined the term gweduc, meaning "dig deep" and referring to the way this bivalve burrows far below the seafloor. Europeans later reinterpreted the native spelling and pronunciation.
Geoduck is a large clam with simple anatomy. There are two major parts to remember: the siphon or neck, which... less

The Starbucks logo is displayed in the window of a Starbucks coffee shop, in San Francisco, on January 24. The coffee giant has been accused of putting its customers lives at risk by using a hazardous pesticide near food.
A group of Tempe, Arizona, police officers have said they were asked to leave a Starbucks coffee shop on the Fourth of July after a customer complained to baristas at the location that they did not feel "safe."
The #DumpStarbucks hashtag began trending on Twitter and other social media outlets Saturday after the Tempe Officers Association accounts tweeted that Starbucks baristas have "zero respect" for law enforcement after kicking them out of the store.
According to the tweets, six Tempe Police Department officers were drinking at a Starbucks near Scottsdale and McKellips roads when a customer who "did not feel safe" c... less

President Donald Trump speaks to the media as he walks to Marine One prior to departing from the South Lawn of the White House in Washington, D.C., July 5, 2019.
In his Independence Day address, President Donald Trump wrongly claimed that the Continental Army "took over the airports" during the Revolutionary War, more than 100 years before the advent of manned aircraft. When asked about the gaffe while departing the White House on Friday, Trump blamed the mistake on a teleprompter malfunction.
"Actually, in the middle of that sentence, it went out. And that's not a good feeling," Trump told reporters on Friday. But he immediately went on to say that he knew the speech so well that he didn't even need a teleprompter.
