Is knowledge for its own sake worthwhile whether it is utilitarian or not? Why?
Useless knowledge is basically just a brain-filler. However, if it wasn't there, our brains might be full of the wrong information.
Half of what you learn will never be used. But nobody knows which half. And some things take more than one lifetime to learn, such as which plants are poisonous. So you remember those things even if you never see those plants again.
Not always. But every piece of knowledge is valuable to me. It may not be useful today, but who knows what will happen tomorrow.
Good point Oscar. In fact that is an excellent point. Things change and you can never know in advance how they will change. Thank you for your reply! :)
Very true Nanoose. Keeping the brain actively engaged is the best way to keep it healthy! I totally agree with thee. Thank you for your reply and Happy First Day of Autumn 2016 Thursday! :)
As people became less savage they developed a conscience? What knowledge would have caused that Kg? Feeling guilty? Would that be part of a natural evolution or do you think enlightened people spread the word? Thank you for your reply and Happy First Day of Autumn 2016 Thursday to you! :)
it depends on what it is
True. But we can dwell upon useful things Kg. We can always choose what we give time/thought/attention to. Well maybe not ALWAYS because sometimes things are thrust upon you without your permission and you have to deal with them. Thank you for your reply and Happy Sunday to thee! :)
