How do you make cleaning house fun?

I need help! I'm not having as much fun as I'd like to. Cleaning is ok. I will make it, with music.

Have someone else do it while you drink wine.

    Play eye spy with yourself.

Example: "I spy with my little eye, something beginning with M" - It's mold! yay! THAT'S RIGHT! LET'S GO CHAMP!

Example: "I spy with my little eye, something beginning with D" - It's dust! yay! i got it right again! LET'S GO CHAMP!

@Alf, that's why I'm cleaning! She comes tomorrow. I don't want this place looking like a dump!

@Tom Thumb, the maid comes tomorrow, but I don't want her to see the mess I've made with all my paint accoutrement!

  • Hmmm ... so you clean the house so that the maid doesn't have to and then you pay her. You don't need a butler, do you!? :)

I would put the music on.   First of all.  Then I would do it in stages.  And, finally I would get enthused once an area that needed cleaning looked clean again.  That gives me incentive and momentum to keep it up.   The cleaner it is, the better you'll feel once it's done.   Also, you can use cleaning as a way to exercise while you clean.  I do that a lot.  I feel like I am multitasking when I deliberately bend over and stretch to pick things up off the floor, etc.

I start with a clean new bag in the vacuum then when everything is vacuumed clean I weigh how much dirt and dust I cleaned up over about 2 hours. The record is just over 4 oz. Least was about 1 1/2 oz.

That would be expensive dirt if I had to pay a cleaner to do it.

You don't wipe or scrub at all?

If only my cleaning was that easy.

Yes I do when needs to be done but it doesn't count if I can't weigh how much dirt. That's no fun.

Start with the goal of one little section of a room at a time. Then be happy that you got something accomplished.

Like WM BARR already said. I posted before I saw her answer.

I let my husband do it while I go do something fun.  He’s a neatnik so that works out perfectly for me.
