Walmart and Kroger. When I was a little kid, (50's) I got a toy train set for Christmas thanks to the 'Top Value' stamps Kroger would give out. I would not have a toy train set otherwise. We were too poor to have enough money for that sort of thing. I remember getting used children's books for Christmas one year. I said "hey! these books are used!" and then momma cried.

What a sad ending to your story. Now, aren't you glad that even back then they thought of recycling? Why didn't we think of the word recycling earlier? We were doing it back then without having a title to it. I like that thought. Happy and Healthy Vibes to you B.H. Wilson. I hope you are safe.

Cool. I am also distantly related to the crown, but not the current family. More like Henry 8th and further back. We are poor since all the money has been spent.
I don't have a prefernce. It's the one I am closest to at the moment. In all honesty, I know the floor plan for almost all the places that offer fresh produce and fresh meat and ice cream around town. Here are some of the most popular I have found: Sprouts Trader Joes (I try to go to these if I am close over the others. They are a bit more expensive but I am only buying for two and we don't eat that much which is surprising as to how much of a mess I make preparing meals ;)) Ralphs Vons Walmart. Until really recently, I never knew they even offered food. I only went into the clothes section and didn't venture beyond t-shirts, shorts and sandles. Amazing what you learn when you step outside your box!

No. The superstores have much more square footage. This used to be a different supermarket so it's big, but not big enough to be considered a superstore. Also, there's a regular Walmart not far from there that doesn't carry food.
WOW!! That is a total shock to me. All these years I've only known Walmart to have quick and cheap clothes. I'm not putting that down. I know I run in there when in dire need and have some great t-shirts and shorts and sandals from there. I'm more likely to wear them than other articles of clothing I buy from other stores because of my life choices and style at the moment. Wear and tear works great and I don't weep at the cost if it happens! But just going there to buy groceries is a whole different concept. The Walmart I go to has a much bigger selection in clothes than food. The pharmacy seems to do well. Talk about a one-stop shop! Ours even has a McDonalds inside. I about died when they put that in.... :(.
My Walmart has a bank. The head manager is a buddy and we have played golf together back in the day.

They took over what was formerly another large supermarket chain, Waldbaum's, so the store was already set up for food. It isn't as large as the superstores, and there's a regular Walmart that sells the other merchandise but not food not far away. I've bought jeans there and t-shirts, but that's about all.
I don't shop. I have someone who does that for me. I got kicked out of H.E.B. for cussing out the manager, and to be honest, Walmart doesn't have squat, never has.
