Do you smoke?

Nicotine from tobacco helps prevent coronavirus.  If you don't smoke you can do the patch or nicotine gum.

Very good!  Myself like many teenagers succumbed by peer pressure to smoke.

However the nicotine from smoking tobacco helps prevent coronavirus.  This post was edited by Kittigate at April 23, 2020 10:06 AM MDT

Let’s evaluate this. A potentially  deadly behavior that diminishes lung efficiency has the possibility of warding off a potentially deadly respiratory virus. Seems more than a little skeptical to me.

I’m not a smoker nor will I begin to be one with the hopes that it might protect me from this virus.

I smoked 3 to 4 packs a day for 7 years. From the age of 18 to 25. One day I decided that I wanted to live longer so I up and quit cold turkey. It's been 45 years since that time.

Appaling to think The Guardian, normally one of the most reliable papers in the world, would publish such ridiculous codswollop.

Nicotine is dangerous and highly addictive. It can cause an increase in blood pressure, heart rate, and the flow of blood to the heart. The narrowing of the arteries may lead to a heart attack.

Ambulance paramedics in New York have reported a six times higher than average rate of deaths by heart attack. It needs autopsies to confirm, but they suspect these attacks are caused by COVID-19.

We now know that the Corona virus attacks not the lungs but the blood, reducing the blood's capacity to carry oxygen. While it might seem that speeding the heart rate might help improve oxygenation, it's more likely that increasing the rate may put more strain on an already oxygen deprived body.

Given that all smokers already have compromised breathing, Corona would only speed up and exacerbate the problems. It would be deadly if someone already has emphysema.

I don't think Guardian is advocating use of nicotine but providing facts from the research people.

Ive read that it's the futilizers that they put on tobacco plants that also contain polonium-210 and that's responsible for something like 80-90 % of the cancers people get from smoking any types of  tobacco .

It’s a shame that it doesn’t taste (and smell) so bad that absolutely NO ONE would want it anywhere near their mouths, that’s what I think.
