That's the most SELF-important land creature on the planet. And the only one that can consume its own body weight in sammiches in a single feeding frenzy. This post was edited by Slartibartfast at November 5, 2020 6:56 PM MST

Slugs They don't call slugs  mother nature's trash compactors for nothing  - if there were no slugs the forest floors wound have 10 feet of debree on it and the soil around the trees would not be able to get rain water and die. Slugs also spreed seeds. Fun Fact - slugs can not traval in a straight line because they only have one foot. Cheers!

The cat.  If you don't believe it, just ask them... when they're awake.

Like they are really sleeping. They're actually plotting to take over the world. Cats are evil bastards.

The San. The genetics and language of the San has led anthropologists to suspect they are a surviving remnant of very primitive human kind. So when the rest of us finally destroy ourselves with technology, as we surely will, there will be the San, ready and waiting to step out of the wilderness to fill the gap. Maybe.

I know there is no reason to believe me but I was going to answer with Kittigate's answer! Somewhere along the line, I've learned of their importance.

But here's my other impulsive, based solely on appearance, answer -- ever since I was in third grade or so, and first saw a picture of one and read about it, this creature has been my favorite creature - -

THE Coolest-Looking Creature I've Ever Seen.

    The Giant Anteater

    :)
