We used to say "Tears for Queers" because we didn't like them and we were 14 and not thinking about homophobic slangs or insults. Political correctness had barely been invented. Some people literally said the "n" word all the time without thinking about it. It was a very long time ago. Owning a VCR and cordless phone meant you were pretty successful in life. Many of my classmates still had stay-at-home moms and parents who were still married to each other!
