If you were going to spend a month during the winter living at a place in the Arctic, what would you wear?

Good idea!  I don't like the cold either so much now that I have become elderly.

That's a lot of stuff to get dressed up in. One thing I don't like about cold weather is that it can take so long to get dressed to go outside.

Yep, when I lived in England, or the few times when I've been into alpine environments in winter, I had tastes of that dressing routine - the time it takes and the weight of it.

I think the technology available for travelling at the poles is now pretty awesome.

One would need layers because the inside of the research stations would be pretty well insulated and heated.

I've often thought Canadians must be pretty hardy people.

It's a tough climate here;  hot dry summers and icy cold winters with lots of snow.

Is seasonal affective disorder a common thing in those most northern latitudes?

I guess the blood has to thaw and thin for summer,
and then somehow thicken for winter - or is that a myth?

How do Canadians cope with those changing seasons?

SAD doesn't seem to be a problem for people native to the area. Being snowed in and alone can become a cause for cabin fever for the fur trappers. Like being in 'the hole' in jail.

I've never heard of that myth.

Just dress appropriately, snow tires in winter or chains and regular tires in summer. And in winter always keep a good snow shovel in the trunk, not an aluminum one neither because the aluminum material will just bend out of shape trying to dig in the hard snow.

I had hypothermia once - hope I'll never have to experience it again.

In that one piece suit I don't think you'd be setting foot outside.

  Er, um, flight suits are only for wear inside of aircraft. I’d either remain on the plane after arriving while they refuel it and swap pilots, or I’d switch planes within minutes of arrival and depart immediately . . .
