People say 'God bless America'. Isn't that a bit self centered? Why not say 'God bless planet Earth'?

Or would that sound too much like promoting globalization?
Afterall God did create the planet earth didn't He and not just USA.

Americans. Not people.   No, God bless America should not be replaced with a global blessing.

There are countless other sayings in other languages and in other countries that exclude the United States. Once you’ve investigated all off those and challenged their users to justify the country-specific nature of their own sayings, you may see how fruitless your point is.

It’s almost as if to say there’s something wrong with a country’s national anthem because it only references that country. If someone thinks other countries should be included in that country’s national anthem . . .

God didn't create anything. The natural laws of the universe created us though the one-uppance of matter over antimatter in which case matter won.

I disagree.  But that does not mean you cannot believe what you want.  That is the beautiful thing about America.

I know there never was any supernatural creation  but I gotta sometimes  make mention of God in order to relate to the theist people.

I could write a book about this, but first, I have to organize my disarranged dignity enough to throw warm clothes on and crawl down the road in this sorry state of Massachusetts. Lots of prudes.

The Creator is considered to be a spirit; but  there is no evidence that a spirit can create material stuff.
    That is what atheists believe.

    Nope.  God bless America.

I am sure other countries say something in support of their country as well.  Nothing wrong with that.

Only thing wrong would be to ask God to curse another country or the rest of the world.

It is basically the same song as "God Bless the USA" but replaced with "God Bless You, Canada." Same singer and everything.

The USA song was a very big hit here in the 1980s.  And likely why many people here started saying it. It is used all the time for elections, Veteran's Day, Memorial Day etc.

I think Canada is naturally well blessed without needing supernatural empowerment.

Perhaps notwithstanding our politicians. This post was edited by Kittigate at January 21, 2021 3:19 PM MST

But the Canada national anthem asks "God keep our land glorious and free"   Is not like asking God to bless Canada?

That is crazy.  Here, our left wing would have a fit.  But the right wing would love it.

I looked ours up 3 cases between 1962 and 1963 ended it.    My husband must have had a school that did not listen...cause he was not born then.  I am a little shocked at the 25 yr difference. Wow.
