Road Trip Music Challenge: Will you post a song that mentions a specific highway, road or street?

I’ve been on part of the former US-66.  The first memory that comes to mind is stopping at the Route 66 Casino in Albuquerque NM.  Neither my husband nor I ever have good luck at the casino.  When we stopped there, my hubby was happy about winning $240, which is the most he’s ever won at the casino.  I cancelled him out by losing $240, so between the two of us we just broke even.

LOL ... but you got to see a beautiful part of this country. :)

Copperhead Road is sadly no more.  The name of the road was changed to Copperhead Hollow Road to stop people from stealing the signs.  That song makes me think of Moonshiners on Discovery Channel.  Umm yeah, they made it look like they’re doing something illegal but all of their moonshiners had licenses to make it, lol.

That is sad - it would be pretty cool to be driving down Copperhead road listing to your engine making that rumbling sound. Cheers and happy weekend!

Part of the song was about the guy growing marijuana  along Copperhead Road.  (Wikipedia says it’s marijuana, the lyrics don’t actually say that.). It reminds of Colorado.  Colorado has five highways longer than 420 miles, but none of those highways have location markers numbered 420.  They’ve all been stolen many times over, lol.

Wow. That's a cool song. Did you mention or post it before? I recall a Dire Straights conversation, but it's vague. 

I think that was between me and Slarti. Or BHWilson. Odd, we have a Telegraph Road here that goes into Michigan. I have been on it many times.

I can't recall a thread along those lines, unless it was in reference to a concert I attended in Sydney many moons ago. If you've not heard the live version of Sultans of Swing, YouTube it immediately.

Yes, it was Sultans of Swing performance. What I remember is a chat conversation about music between El and I sometime  before chat disappeared. He had me watch that performance, live. I was quite impressed.  

I think... maybe. I know I'm not imagining it, because I remember saying that I always associated Dire Straights with 'Money for Nothing' and while I did like Sultans of Swing okay, those two songs were about the extent of my Dire Straights exposure/knowledge. I've listened a bit more since then. Very good band. I never knew! 

This makes me think of Detroit and US-24, even though Dire Straits is British.

Raphael Ravenscroft should have been credited on that track. Gerry may have sang it, but the sax riff was what elevated it into the ranks of Classic Rock.

Funny you mention that -- I'm not a sax fan, per se -- but the sax solo on this song - - yup! 

I do like Gerry on the song, too, and the entire album, but the sax here takes me to another great world every time.

If this question were somebody else’s, this is probably the first song I would’ve thought about posting.  I decided to go with with a song about the Pacific Coast Highway just to start this question off with Route 1.  I wondered if we could’ve done this consecutively, like the next person posts a song about Highway 2 and the person after that posts a song about Highway 3.  That would probably be an impossible challenge because I can’t think of songs right now about Highways 2, 3 or 4.
