I heard it today out on the street here in Brooklyn, which is what prompted the question.

Maybe a speech therapist would be helpful.

Korean people never use the letter L in their speech and they cannot even pronounce it. Some years ago I met a lady visiting here to learn the English language. She told me that whenever she walked into a room where people are conversing it seemed to her that all she could hear was the letter 'L'  loudly and clearly.

    L...L...L...L...L...

Awile back you were going on and on about how using the word Benjamin to describe money is rasist but yet you  often use racist stereo type things like rots of ruck.

There are times when I think that if they took the word "like" out of use, some folks wouldn't be able to speak at all.

It’s even worse when the person is A) supposedly well educated and B) speaking in a professional capacity. Grrrrrrr.

Agreed.  The person could be the smartest one in the room, but when they speak that way, they sound more like the dumbest.

OMG!  Like, you think that way too?  That is like, sooo weird that we, like, think the same way.   Like, just the other day I was like talking to my  BBF and she like, kept saying "like", like a gazillion times.  It was like so frustrating.

Especially when they, like, chew gum and like, twist their hair. ValleyGirlSpeak, because of where it comes from - the land of long-necked cabbages.
